WHAT IS EXFOLIATING?

Exfoliating is a beauty technique used by skincare-lovers everywhere in which products are used to exfoliate off dead skin cells to reveal skin that looks and feels softer and smoother. WHAT DO EXFOLIATORS DO?

Exfoliators have many benefits for your skin which all depend on which type of exfoliator you use, the part of your body you’re exfoliating and the ingredients in your chosen exfoliator.

The main benefit that all exfoliators have in common is that they help to exfolaiate off dead skin cells revealing the softer, smoother skin beneath. Some exfoliators can also help to refine and unclog the look of your pores, hydrate your skin, make your skin appear brighter and even reduce the appearance of wrinkles!

HOW TO EXFOLIATE YOUR FACE

The skin on your face is different and more sensitive than the skin you might exfoliate on your arms, legs or feet. This means when exfoliating your face, you should use a dedicated face exfoliator to ensure your skin receives a safe and healthy amount of exfoliation for best results!

Charlotte recommends an acid-based exfoliator for your face, like her NEW! Super Radiance Resurfacing Facial. This 2-in-1 face exfoliator gently, yet effectively exfoliates, resurfaces, hydrates and adds radiance to your skin with the power of expertly blended acids and radiance-boosting ingredients.

Tilbury Tip: If you have not used acids in your magic skincare routine before, Charlotte recommends leaving Super Radiance Resurfacing Facial on your skin for just 5 minutes for your first application, increasing the time by 5 minutes week-by-week until you reach the recommended full 20 minutes! This is to help your skin get used to the ingredients; Super Radiance Resurfacing Facial is suitable for all skin types.

WHEN SHOULD YOU EXFOLIATE?

Exfoliating is a must-do regular step in either your morning or evening skincare routine. It’s best to exfoliate after double-cleansing and before serums, masks or magic moisturisers to ensure the product is absorbed by the skin before you apply any other skincare products.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU EXFOLIATE?

While you treat your skin to research-powered cleansers, high-performance serums and magic moisturisers daily, you should only exfoliate your face once a week! Choose a morning or evening in the week where you can dedicate a little more time to your magic skin routine to ensure your skin gets its weekly dose of exfoliating magic!

HOW DO YOU EXFOLIATE WITHOUT USING A SCRUB?

While many enjoy the more textured formulas of exfoliating scrubs, it’s common to seek a product with a gentler, smoother, non-abrasive formula when exfoliating the skin on your face.

Acid exfoliants may include singular or a blend of kind-to-skin acids - alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) like Glycolic Acid, beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) like Salicylic Acid and poly hydroxy acids (PHAs) like Bio Agave Acid - to effectively deliver gentle exfoliation. These acids can work alone or alongside others like Hyaluronic Acid and Polyglutamic Acid to help resurface and smooth the look of your skin without scrubbing - which could irritate some skin types.

WHAT ARE AHAs and BHAs?

We just mentioned AHAs and BHAs, but what are they? AHAs and BHAs are types of hydroxy acids, and the main purpose of hydroxy acids is to exfoliate the skin. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are water-soluble acids made from sugary fruits, while beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) are oil soluble.

AHAs and BHAs exfoliate your skin in different ways; AHAs help to exfoliate off dead skin cells and to reveal new cells underneath which may be softer, smoother_ and more evenly pigmented. BHAs can target dead skin cells and help to unclog your pores. Common types of AHAs include Glycolic, Lactic and Citric Acid, and the most common type of BHA is Salicylic Acid, however some formulations of Citric Acid can also be classified as a BHA.

Charlotte’s NEW! Super Radiance Resurfacing Facial is enriched with the HIGH-PERFORMANCE Glycolic Acid (AHA), Salicylic Acid (BHA) and Bio Agave Acid, a poly hydroxy acid (PHA) to exfoliate, resurface and hydrate your skin!
