Groom Makeup Routine

  1. Wonderglow is an illuminating primer that gives the skin a soft-focused, luminous finish

STEP 1: Prime and Perfect the Skin

Every groom that’s applying makeup should start with a face primer that smooths and blurs the look of the complexion. Massaging primer into the face using your hands or blending it in with the Magic Complexion Brush helps to create smoother-looking skin and readies it for an effortless makeup application.

My primers are expertly formulated to perfect the look of skin and are great choices to begin your groom makeup routine. If you want a radiant complexion that looks awake and glowing, choose Wonderglow to smooth the look of skin while adding flattering luminosity. Alternatively, if you’d prefer a pore-blurring effect, choose Invisible UV Flawless Poreless Primer SPF50; it’s my sunscreen-primer hybrid that primes, perfects and protects the skin and is perfect for a destination wedding!

  2. Unisex Healthy Glow is Charlotte's tinted moisturiser for a sun-kissed complexion

    STEP 2: Add Healthy-Looking Coverage

You can wear face primer on its own to smooth and blur the look of skin without adding extra coverage, however, for those that want to even out the appearance of their skin tone, applying a tinted moisturiser or a touch of natural-looking foundation is the next step.

I created Unisex Healthy Glow as a flattering, light-coverage tinted moisturiser that gives the skin a healthy-looking, sun-kissed glow. It’s a lightweight, hydrating formula infused with bronzing pigments that burst on application. Applying as a white moisturiser, the formula instantly tints as you smooth it into your complexion to make the skin appear naturally bronzed.

For extra coverage, choose Charlotte’s Beautiful Skin Foundation. This medium-coverage foundation has a natural-looking, radiant finish and builds effortlessly to create custom coverage in the areas you want it. To keep your foundation application light, apply one pump to the back of your hand and gently smooth it onto the face with the Hollywood Complexion Brush to create an even-looking finish.

Tilbury Tip: To lighten the coverage of Charlotte’s Beautiful Skin Foundation, try mixing it with Charlotte’s Magic Cream to create a custom tinted moisturiser.

  3. Charlotte's Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer with lid off

STEP 3: Conceal the look of Blemishes and Dark Circles

Waking up on your wedding day with blemishes and dark circles can dull the excitement of the occasion, but this is easily remedied by applying Charlotte’s Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer. Designed as a hydrating, medium-coverage concealer, this formula helps to brighten the look of the under eyes while concealing the appearance of redness. To apply, softly dot concealer under the eyes and onto any areas you require a little more coverage and blend out with the small, tapered end of the Hollywood Complexion Brush.

Tilbury Tip: You can use concealer without foundation for a lighter-coverage groom makeup look; just dot concealer precisely in any areas that you’d like to add some coverage.

  4. Airbrush Flawless Finish pressed powder in shade 3 for tan complexions

    STEP 4: Apply Smoothing-Effect Powder

Once you’re happy with your complexion, applying a light dusting of powder will help to set any makeup you applied into place throughout the ceremony and into the evening. Airbrush Flawless Finish is my award-winning, smoothing-effect pressed powder and it’s a wedding day staple. Designed to blur the appearance of skin while feeling light as air, this finely milled, skin-perfecting powder is perfect for tapping into the T-zone, under the eyes and over fine lines with the Powder & Sculpt Brush to help prevent creasing and remove unwanted shine.

  5. An open bronzer compact with a mirrored-lid in a rich chocolate brown shade, perfect for deep skin tones.

STEP 5: Sculpt and Add Warmth with Bronzer

Bronzing your complexion is the perfect way to look sun-kissed on your wedding day. I recommend using my Airbrush Bronzer to add warmth to your cheeks, nose and forehead to create the appearance of a healthy-looking, bronzed complexion. The matte formula is perfect for giving the face a sculpting effect, adding definition to the cheekbones and jawline to help you look perfectly chiselled as you recite your vows. With bronzer, the key is to apply it wherever the sun naturally hits, using the Bronzer and Blusher Brush to create smoother-looking, sun-dipped skin.

  6. Legendary Brows tinted brow gel in Taupe

    STEP 6: Groom the Brows

Eyebrows are the pillars of the face, so it’s important to keep them well groomed! The best brow for every groom is an enhanced version of their natural brow shape, and my brow-perfecting products are the perfect tools for making them look defined and dapper. The key to perfecting your brows is simple – fill, feather and fix. First, sketch natural-looking hairs using your perfect shade of Brow Cheat, following the natural shape of your brows and filling in any gaps. Then, use Legendary Brows as a subtle brow tint that gives them a fluffy, feathered effect. Finally, use Brow Fix as a clear brow gel to lock your brow hairs into place.

  7. An open eyeliner pencil in a soft dark brown colour with its cap next to it.

STEP 7: Define the Eyes with Eyeliner

If you want to accentuate the look of your eyes in a more subtle way than applying mascara or liquid eyeliner, I suggest using my powder eyeliner pencil, The Classic, to subtly define the lash line. This easy-to-use formula adds soft definition, gliding onto the upper lash line and building soft, blendable colour. It’s available in Classic Brown, Classic Black and Shimmering Brown and gives your groom makeup look an understated, eye-defining effect that will pop in your wedding photos.

Tilbury Tip: If you have lighter-toned eyelashes or want to make your lashes stand out, apply Full Fat Lashes mascara to give them buildable volume and a flattering tint.

  8. A lip oil in a white coloured tube with reflective geometric patterns on it in silver colour and a rose-gold-coloured lid.

    STEP 8: Hydrate the Lips

For ultra-soft, kissable lips at the altar, keep your lips hydrated with Charlotte’s Magic Lip Oil Crystal Elixir. This crystal-infused formula has the comfortable feel of an oil and the supercharged effects of a serum, gliding onto the lips to leave them feeling conditioned and plush. The easy-to-use rollerball applicator swipes across the lips to provide an instant rush of moisture, while working to lock in that moisture for nourishment that lasts throughout your nuptials.

Tilbury Tip: Before applying your lip oil, soak a cotton pad with Take It All Off makeup remover and swipe along the lips to erase any foundation or concealer from your lips.

  9. Matte Beauty Blush Wand in Pillow Talk Peach Pop, a natural-matte peach blush colour

STEP 9: Give the Cheeks a Pop of Colour with Blush

If you decide that your complexion could use a flattering flush of colour, dot a shade of Matte Beauty Blush Wand onto the cheeks for an instant lift effect. This easy liquid blush formula has a natural-matte finish that looks flattering on everyone. It blends effortlessly to give the cheeks a perfect pop of colour that mimics the rosy look you get from falling in love. For a minimal groom makeup look, apply a single dot of liquid blush to the apples of the cheeks then blend out using the Bronzer & Blusher Brush.

  10. Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray is Charlotte's weightless, makeup-fixing mist that lets you party all night and stay all day

STEP 10: Fix Makeup into Place with Setting Spray

The final step in your groom makeup routine is to fix your look into place with setting spray. I created Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray as a weightless-feeling formula that sets makeup in place for up to 16 hours, making it the perfect formula to choose on your wedding day. Applying a light mist of this setting spray helps to refresh the look of your makeup and extends its wear time, so you can make it through the ceremony and the speeches with your groom makeup look intact.

Tilbury Tip: Reapply Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray throughout the day as a relaxing makeup mist refresher!
