So many people are scared of baking because they think it will make their makeup look heavy or powdery, but do it correctly darlings and your makeup will look even more flawless!

How to bake your makeup with loose setting powder
Darlings, these are the two techniques that I use to bake makeup with loose powder: I call them the Soft AIRbake and the Full AIRbake!
The Full AIRbake is for that full glam, full coverage effect and works well with a full-coverage makeup base like AIRbrush Flawless Foundation and AIRbrush Flawless Blur Concealer. With your powder puff, press a good amount of AIRbrush Flawless Blur Loose Powder under your eyes and towards your temples, underneath the hollows of your cheeks, the centre of your nose and forehead, the sides of your nose and the corners of your mouth. This is how you get that lifted, snatched, fully baked makeup look.
The Soft AIRBake is a more subtle version of baking that’s more suitable for light-coverage makeup looks. The principle is the same; pack loose powder onto your puff and pat it into the areas you want to bake, however, use a more reserved approach placing powder only on the inner and outer corners of the under eyes and at the outer corners of your mouth. A Soft AIRbake will get you the same lifting and blurring effect but requires less powder and has a more natural, understated look. I love to use my pink and peach brightening shades of AIRbrush Flawless Blur Loose Powder for this technique because they’re perfect for giving your face that dreamy, diffused look.

1. Start with skin prep
Every makeup base should start with the right skincare – especially when you are going to be applying a lot of powder as you do when baking your makeup. Powder makeup can emphasise the look of dry patches, skin texture and fine lines so be sure to apply hydrating skincare products first that will prime your skin for makeup. I never apply makeup without moisturising with Charlotte’s Magic Cream – it’s the magic star behind every look I create and will make skin appear smoother, plumper and ready to bake!
2. Apply foundation and concealer
Before applying any powder, lay down your liquids and creams first. When you are baking, you want to bake your foundation and concealer, so apply these first and blend them out to get your perfect coverage and finish. In areas where you will be baking with loose powder, take extra care to blend well and avoid any cakey texture that your loose powder may want to cling to. I recommend using a dense brush like my Hollywood Complexion Brush and working with stippling motions, working foundation and concealer into your skin and buffing out any visible lines for a smooth blend.
3. Apply loose powder with a powder puff
This is where the magic happens… With your powder puff, pick up a good amount of loose powder and press it into the areas that you want to bake. For a soft bake, use a smaller amount of powder, or for a full bake, you can be a little heavier handed. To get that lifting effect, be sure to apply powder in a shape that points upwards. I created my AIRbrush Flawless Blur Puff in a heart shape that has a pointed edge that’s perfect for getting those sharp, winged-out lines. The more powder you apply, the more impactful your bake will be – just remember more powder = more brightening and less powder = more natural-looking.
4. Let it bake!
The secret to a flawless bake is to leave your loose powder sitting on your skin. As the powder is left to sit, it meshes with your skin and has a blurring and brightening effect. The longer you leave your powder to bake, the more prominent your bake will become. If you want the areas you have baked to really pop and give you that snatched look, get on with the rest of your makeup look – apply your lip liner, do your brows, or start your eyeshadow look – then after a few minutes, you will be fully baked.
5. Dust away the excess
Once you have finished baking, be sure to wipe away any leftover powder to avoid leaving a powdery texture on your skin. When dusting away loose powder, use a big, fluffy brush like my Powder & Sculpt Brush to softly swipe away any residual bake. Don’t drag your brush on your skin as this can move around your foundation and concealer. Instead, softly glide the brush back and forth to wipe away excess without disturbing your makeup base.
6. Melt powder with setting spray
Using a loose powder like AIRbrush Flawless Blur Loose Powder will look weightless on your skin, but to give your freshly baked complexion an extra-airbrushed look, spray a light veil of setting spray over your face to help melt powders into skin for a fresher, smoother-looking skin finish. After powdering the face, I always go in with a layer of AIRbrush Flawless Setting Spray to meld all of the textures together and make the complexion look super-seamless and airbrushed. It will also lock in the beautiful brightness and blur you get from your loose powder for up to 16 hours!*
7. Finish with pressed powder
This is a bonus step, darlings, but if you love powder as much as I do, you’re going to want to try this! After you have baked with loose setting powder and your setting spray is drying, take a pressed powder on a powder brush and lightly press it into your complexion. This technique functions as a finishing powder – it sets down your makeup with a gorgeous, soft-focus finish to make your complexion look absolutely flawless. Baking Makeup: More FAQs
How long should I bake my makeup for?
There isn’t a limit to how long you can bake your makeup for. You can leave loose powder on your skin for a minute or for 10 or until you have finished your complete makeup look. Your bake will look brighter and more intense the longer you leave it on your skin – if you want a soft, natural look, a couple of minutes will be enough, and if you want a more dramatic, wow effect, leave your bake on for longer.
Should I bake before or after setting spray?
Bake before applying setting spray. Setting spray is a great beauty tool for making powder makeup look more skin-like and also helps it to last longer on the face. My advice would be to bake with loose powder, then remove any excess and apply setting spray after baking to lock in your look.

Does baking makeup work for real life?
