1. Choosing the wrong shade for your skin

First things first, making sure you have the right color will set the standard for the rest of the application. Even if you apply blush like a pro, you need to choose the right color for your skin. Go for a pretty pink blusher if you are fair for the most natural look, a peach shade will look universally gorgeous on any skin tones, and a pop of brighter red shades look incredible on darker skin tones.

2. Applying blusher before the rest of your makeup

Ok, so you found your perfect color. But hold it right there. Don’t go applying your blusher as soon as your foundation is on. Wait until you have completed your makeup look, because then you can see just how much color you need.

3. Not using the right brush

It might seem like a minor thing, but using the right brush is a key factor in getting a natural looking flush of color. A blusher brush is slightly tapered to allow you to swish the color up your cheeks, and pop color on the apples.

4. Forgetting to blend enough

We all tend to forget the reason that we apply blush, to mimic that flush of color that rushes to your cheeks. This means that if you can see where your blush ends and starts, then you need to blend some more. When you are flushed, it is not limited to just a circle around your cheeks, it blends seamlessly into the skin. So, keeping this in mind when applying blush will help you know how much to blend.

5. Too close to your nose

Much like the above, you want to make sure you don’t get too close to your nose, the closest you should be is by the apples of your cheeks for that natural pop of color.

6. Being too heavy handed

Golden rule. Too much blush is a disaster zone. It’s so easy to avoid, always remember to apply blush in natural light and tap off any excess before you go in with the heavy hand. This will stop you getting a clown-esque vibe.
